Gothic Lolita is one of the many offshoots of Goth fashion, drawing influence from many different styles and national influences. Lolita style originated in the late 1970's with fashion companies Milk and Pink House developing styles based on a hybrid of American prairie and Edwardian and Victorian dolls. This style was combined with classic Goth in Japan shortly after that and developed into the modern Gothic Lolita look. The images at left from the Gothic and Lolita bible are part of the mass-marketed line of clothing and accessories widely available in Japan and Asia. Despite their origins in Lolita fashion, the two ensembles at left could just as easily conform to classic Goth styling with its highly eclectic origins and its androgynous feel.
